Week 3 Reading Reflection

  • The author’s paragraph about “Sense of Distrust” really stood out to me. I always thought of trust as being necessary in teamwork and business, but I never thought about distrust also being an asset that entrepreneurs can have, so this really baffled me!

  •  I was confused about the entrepreneurial ethics. The author started talking about Plato, Socrates, and other Greek philosophers, but I really never saw that side of philosophy applied to entrepreneurship. Also, if saying that there is no universal code for solving ethical problems and they must be solved individually, then how could there be an ethics section trying to encompass ethics?

  •  I would like to ask the author for a personal example of an ethical dilemma that he experienced in the business world so I can better grasp and understanding for what ethical issues may potentially arise in my future. Also, I would ask him about the ethical rationalizations and how they actually are exemplified in the real world. I understand the definition of these rationalizations, but I need a proper example.

  •  I disagreed with the source of stress known as “loneliness”. Many great entrepreneurs are known for their strong independence, and these people don’t experience loneliness so much when trying to solve problems. I believe some of these people find tranquility in solitude and don’t like to share things all that often.

Identifying Local Opportunities

1. Police looking for man who robbed, sexually assaulted woman at knife point
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/miami-dade/article56234655.html

Police cannot find a man who sexually assaulted a woman and robbed her. They posted where the crime happened and posted a number to ask for the community to call if they know any details

The problem presented in the story is that people can commit crime and get away with it. Police have a hard time finding all criminals and its an issue with local communities.

The community is by far the one at risk for this problem because they can be attacked at any point and will sometimes not be able to find the criminal. in terms of this exact example, the person being attacked clearly has a huge problem to deal with since they are looking for this person

2. Airlines cancel thousands of flights as big storm advances.
http://www.miamiherald.com/latest-news/article56192835.html

There currently is a huge snow storm in the north east and many airlines are canceling flights. To be exact, this friday and saturday 7600 flights were cancelled due to this weather.

The problem presented in this story is that weather can have serious harmful effects on every day life

The people who have the problem in this story are the people flying these past two days. They have delayed flights and it is completely out of their control since weather is one thing we have zero control over.

Small plane with engine trouble lands on side of U.S 27

This saturday, a small plane landed on U.S 27 near west Broward landed because of engine problems. They havent released what problems they had. All three people aboard were safe with no injuries.

The problem presented in the story is that technically difficulty in planes can cause serious problems. Lucky for this story that the only problem was traffic on U.S 27. But a couple of people could have been injured which is a huge problem

The people with the problem are all plane owners. All the way from commercial airlines to small private jets. Many people can experience problems while in flight causing them to have to have an emergency landing.

Palin blames Obama for sons domestic violence incident

Sarah palin, at a Donald trump convention told a story of her son who had been in a domestic violence incident. Her son and his girlfriend were fighting over an issue where it escalated into physical violence. Police found them and arrested sarahs son. She blames obama because he was a war veteran and he could not deal with the post life of war. Obama is at fault here because he continues to elongate the war abroad unlike what he told people.

The problem presented in the story that the author notices is that Sarah Palin should not be using a personal story of domestic violence to rally up the voters. Its extremely sad the event that happened and is personal to the son and girlfriend. Its very clear the Obama is not at fault and should not be blamed.

The person with the problem is the son and girlfriend. They have to deal now with the media because of his mother not being able to be quiet with their own personal issues

Early Florida primary can free candidates from pork-on-a-stick

The story is about the primaries starting in florida instead of Iowa. Its a what if article meaning that they are asking what if florida was the starting point and candidates have to "suck up" to floridians. They explain the different tactics many politicians use on florida compared to Iowa such as climate change vs the use of ethanol.

The problem in the story is that politicians can change up their policy day to day. They basically say one thing to one group of people and a completely different thing to another group of people. This does not allow for an easy decision when voting.

The people with the problem are the voters. Not knowing who to vote for is extremely bad for our government.

Very Short Interview No. 1

What should my expectations be in this course?

The expectation in your first entrepreneurship class is to have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. Learning the fundamentals is crucial for expanding and specializing in whatever type of entrepreneur you become.

What does it mean to be an entrepreneur?

Being an entrepreneur is more then just selling things and being your own boss. Being an entrepreneur means that you have a wide range of knowledge on how to sell, run a company and be successful at it. All entrepreneurs need to be successful in order to continue running their business and that’s what you should strive for.

What do you think I should learn in an entrepreneurship course?

I believe one of the most important parts of this entrepreneurship course should be learning to think outside of the box. This course should not teach you definitions and other tedious task like most classes. You should be given a lot of hands on experience for this class to have success.

The entrepreneur I have interviewed was Jim Beauchamp. He is the owner of a construction company in miami.

The assignment was extremely helpful because you get a different perspective on entrepreneurship from a third party. The person i had interviewed seems to look at the financial aspect of being an entrepreneur and also believes the fundamentals of this are important.

Worlds Biggest Problems

For this exercise, identify 10 of what you believe to be the worlds BIGGEST problems. Describe each problem with some detail (just a few sentences per problem will do fine). With each problem, describe, briefly, what you think a practical, implementable solution could be.

1. Poverty
There arent many solutions to this other then complete socialism, but if wealth was distributed better we would have less poverty. redistributing wealth would help a lot of people who are poor now have money but harming those who are wealthy.

2. Weapons of mass destruction in rogue countries
For the united states to go inside of these rogue countries like North Korea and Iran and stop the proliferation of WMD. This is feasible seeing that we have the largest military in the world and they would not be able to stop us.

3. Global Warming
This is one of the biggest problem my generation will have to face and if every single country implemented a "Cap and Trade" policy to reduce global warming. Co2 emissions with a cap and trade system will only help the problem and not hurt even more.

4. Terrorism in the middle east.
If we implement more drone strikes in the middle east targeted at the terrorist leaders, this will only decrease terrorism. If the strongest terrorist keep getting destroyed, then they will only have weak leaders running. If Steph curry was injured, the back up point guard will be much worse then him and if we keep doing that we will be having myself as the point guard. ( not good )

5. Developmental problems in africa.
If we implement aid to africa in the forms of food, education and farming practices, Then africa will not have one of the lowest development rates of all regions in the world. These practices would help with malnutrition, poverty and help them expand and grow.

6. Civil wars in Africa
Many reasons why civil wars and other conflics happen around the world is a lack of supplies in these regions. Because of this the UN should send in peacekeepers in these regions because of the chance of civil war. If peacekeepers deter wars they should help calm the violence from starting.

7. Drugs in Latin america
Latin america, Mexico and Columbia to point at exact countries, have a huge problem with drugs and war. The war on drugs is one of the longest conflicts and whenever it ends in one country it just starts all over again in another. One solution would be to legalize drugs which would cause black markets to fall. Although this will never happen it is a feasible solution.

8. Refugee crisis in the EU
The most recent problem has been all of the refugees leaving Syria and war areas near Syria to find better places and homes. All the countries should accept a certain amount that way they dont all flee to one country and over populate this country.

9. Oil
Everyone in the world is fighting over oil and it is a huge global crisis. We really need to invest money in finding alternatives because at the end of the day oil at this rate will all be used up in the coming years and we will have a lot of problems. Investing money in alternatives could also be better for the environment.

10. population overgrowth
We have a set amount of land yet the population of the world is growing at an exceptional rate. Most of these problems happen in lower developed countries because having 10 kids allows more workers for parents. Also the fact that they are not having protected sex is causing them to have so many children causing the problem. So sex education can really help these countries understand the harms that the future might have.
